The Equal Education Opportunities Act of 1974 is a federal law enacted by congress that states all children enrolled in public schools are entitled to equal educational opportunity without regard to race, color, sex, or national origin; and that the neighborhood is the appropriate basis for determining public school assignments. States that the purpose of this Act is to authorize concentration of resources under the Emergency School Aid Act on educationally deprived students and to specify appropriate remedies for the orderly removal of the vestiges of the dual school system.
.Although this law is in practice, and meant to allow all to have an equal education, this is not the case. Many children are receiving an unequal education to those who surround them. Too many students do not have what they need in order to succeed. About forty percent of school districts in America do not offer preschool. Almost 1 out of every 5 and somewhat fewer latino students attend drop out factories. Students of color and English learning students are more likely to attend schools with high percentages of inexperienced teachers. Students with disabilities make up about 12 percent of high-school students, but only 2 percent of students who take an AP class. So it is evident that an achievement gap between students exist.
The Equal Education Opportunities Act is not being followed. Education is not equal for all. This problem exist throughout the world and needs to be addressed. Join the fight now to gain equity in education, the more people willing to fight for it, the closer we will be to achieving it!
